“What does it mean to be a sanctuary city?” Join the conversation Feb. 22nd, 2017

So, what exactly does it mean to be a sanctuary city and how does that affect Salem? Join the discussion tomorrow from 6:00-7:30 PM at The House of the Seven Gables. Per their website:

“Braden Paynter of the International Coalition of Sites of Conscience will moderate a discussion with local city officials including Mayor Kimberley Driscoll of Salem, Councilor Josh Zakim of Boston, and Councilor James Cote from Newton. Their topic will be the pros and cons of sanctuary cities. Local leaders will talk about their decision-making process as they considered the sanctuary designation for their cities.

The primary goal of The Gables in hosting these dialogues is to encourage all residents and civic leaders of Salem and surrounding communities to listen, learn, and share their thoughts on immigration and immigration reform. The immigration conversations serve as an educational tool to explore some deeply entrenched perceptions and misperceptions that new immigrants and the descendants of earlier generations of immigrants have about each other — and sometimes about themselves and their own heritage.
