Godddd this makes me sad. Story Riley did serious damage along the east coast, and per the Salem Maritime National Park Service, the Derby Wharf is now indefinitely closed.
“As of today, March 5, 2018, Derby Wharf is closed indefinitely. Damage and erosion from Winter Storm Riley has created hazardous conditions currently making it unsafe for the public to travel along the wharf to Derby Light.
We would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that removing artifacts from federal property like Salem Maritime NHS is illegal. This includes ceramics, metals, and sea glass. Feel free to take photographs of artifacts that wash up on the beach, but please leave them for the next visitor to discover.”
