If you have wandered Salem’s historic districts, I’m sure you’ve noticed the plaques on the sides of many of the homes. Those were put there by Historic Salem, in partnership with Salem Historical Society – both are organizations in the city that work to preserve Salem’s history. How can you learn to date historic homes around Salem? Swing by the Hawthorne Hotel on Sept. 27th to check it out! Details and image used are per the Facebook event:
“Join the Old House Whisperer, John Cole, for a special lecture on how to date historic homes in the Essex Room of Salem’s historic Hawthorne Hotel. John will identify the tell-tale signs that show the viewer how to properly reach the original building date from the exterior of historic houses. He will also review interior details that corroborate the date that is determined from the exterior viewing. Rare paneled fireplace walls and the intrigue of walk-in fireplaces will also be portrayed. We hope you can join us – this event is FREE and open to all ages!
