I did one of these posts last year and it was well received, so I figured we’d do it again for 2018! Salem has many options as far as things to do, spanning from the young to the old, so rest assured these aren’t your only options. Just a few of my personal picks for some family friendly fun andย I’ll update this post as we go along so stay tuned.
The annual Howl-o-ween pet parade
I don’t care how old I get, I always want to see cute animals in Halloween costumes. This year the parade is happening on Oct. 13, check out the details here.
The annual children’s costume parade and cosplay event
Bring the little ones down for a parade and good times all around. Details can be found on the FB event here.
The Great Salem Pumpkin Walk
I absolutely love this. Take a walk along the pumpkin trail to see seasonal displays around the witch city. Details here. This is part of the Wicked Wednesdays programming in Salem.
Hocus Pocus Donuts at Far From the Tree Cider + Tour the Hocus Pocus filming locations in Salem
Now, bear in mind this is a cider brewery. However, you could send mom or dad in to purchase some sugary treats and then take them on the go around Salem while you check out the filming locations! Keep in mind one of the donuts offered is made with hard cider, the rest are not. ๐ You can read the details of the donutsย here, and movie locations are here.
Mayor’s Night Out
Throw on the costumes and go trick or treating with Mayor Kim Drisoll around Salem. Click here for more info.
Haunted Harmonies
Haunted Harmonies is a one day a cappella festival in Salem. Where can you hear the music? Click here for details.
Haunted Happenings Grand Parade
Kick off the official Halloween season in Salem with the Grand Parade. More info here.
The Fairy Door Trail
Follow the map with the kiddos and spot the beautiful fairy doors around downtown Salem. Details here, this is also part of Wicked Wednesdays programming.
Live music at Fountain Stage
In October the Fountain Stage area in Salem lights up with music on the regular. Check out programming for the 2018 season here.
Go on a hunt for Salem’s buskers and street performers
Salem has many familiar (costumed) faces that haunt the streets during October. You might recognize Salem’s Black Hat Society, MrBones of Salem, Steve the Vampire and more. If the kiddos aren’t too spooked by witches and the like, a little goose chase around Salem taking pictures with the performers could be fun. How many can you find and meet?
Have fun!! Feel free to comment below with your own favorites. <3
