Saying goodbye to the Halloween pumpkins is so sad, but this is at least a good way to be eco-friendly about it! Details per the Facebook event:
“Salem Alliance for the Environment (SAFE), SalemRecycles, and Black Earth Compost team up to bring you The Great Pumpkin Drop — A Community Composting event!
On Sunday, November 4 from 12:00-3:00, bring your pumpkins to Dead Horse Beach, where Black Earth Compost will collect them for composting. Here’s why:
* TRADE your pumpkin for a cup of cider and a donut from Coffee Time Bake Shop. Bring your own mug if you wish.
* TEST your skills at shooting your pumpkin through a basketball hoop. Yes, we’re serious!
* ENTER a raffle for one year of FREE compost pickup at home!
* But mostly, COMPOSTING is COOL. Un-composted pumpkins don’t go to pumpkin heaven. Some end up in landfill, producing methane as they decompose; this greenhouse gas is 21x more harmful then CO2. Some add unnecessary weight to our trash load, and are incinerated. Salem’s pumpkins deserve better! Composting turns food waste into rich nutrients for topsoil.

This collection takes place on November 4 ,2018 from 12:00 to 3:00 pm at Dead Horse Beach, 158 Fort Ave. Salem, MA 01970. Enjoy!! <3
