I love this! Salem is full of so many gorgeous old homes and this lecture with Historic Salem, Inc. is your chance to learn about the role of the private homeowner in preservation. Details per Historic Salem’s website:
“Many people view historic museums as the primary preservers of early houses. The fact is most old houses in New England are privately owned. Thus upkeep, restoration, and preservation of these priceless structures are born by the people who live in and maintain them.
John Cole, also known as βThe Old House Whisperer,β was Property Manager for the SPNEA – (now Historic New England). He worked extensively with Abbott Cummings, American architectural historian. John has overseen countless preservation projects in New England as well as Arkansas. He founded Shaker Workshops, Inc. and taught Historical Preservation at the Harvard School of Design and at the University of Arkansas, Graduate School of Architecture. Today, he shares his expertise through lectures, consulting, and by writing books and dating documents for private homeowners.”
This event takes place on December 6, 2018 starting at 6:00 pm at The Pickering House, 18 Broad St. Salem, MA 01970. Tickets are available here. Enjoy!! <3
