I love all of the topics happening as part of Seven Lectures at Seven Gables!! The Pop Goes the Gables exhibit discusses pop culture and its influence on society and the lectures go hand and hand with it. Details are per Facebook:
“From the Irish immigrants of the nineteenth century to the women of the World War II era to the array of international talent today, the players on the baseball diamond have been a representation of Americans since the early days of “America’s pastime.” Brian Sheehy, captain of the Essex Base Ball Organization will talk about the Irish and their roles and influences in the growth of baseball in the 19th century.
Members: Free, Non-Members: $10.00. To reserve your spot for this lecture please click the ticket link; email jarrison@7gables.org, or call 978-306-7003. This is the fifth lecture in our Seven Lectures at Seven Gables Series. The 2019 exhibit, Pop! Goes The Gables explored how Hawthorne’s novel and our 1668 mansion have influenced pop culture over the centuries. The lecture series complements the many themes explored in that exhibit.
Brian Sheehy is a sports historian who has traveled all over the country giving presentations on 19th-century baseball and its connection to American culture. Brian is also the history department coordinator at North Andover High School where he teaches AP European History, Sports of the Past, and Sports in American Culture. He has designed and created professional development for other teachers so that they can incorporate sports-related themes and topics into their everyday history classrooms. Brian is the president of the Essex Base Ball Organization, a nonprofit group that plays base ball as it was played in the 19th century.”
This lecture takes place on August 13, 2019 from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at the House of the Seven Gables, 115 Derby St. Salem, MA 01970. Enjoy!! <3
