Hawthorne in Hollywood film series at the House of the Seven Gables

Do you know how deep the roots of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s work go? Coming up this fall you’ll have a chance to explore three films with the House of the Seven Gables that are examples of just that. Details are per Facebook.

“Did you know that Nathaniel Hawthorne has over 60 film credits to his name? Hawthorne’s work has inspired Hollywood since 1908. Join us at The House of the Seven Gables as we roll out the red carpet and explore three of these films as part of our POP! Goes The Gables exhibition. Tickets available at store.7gables.org.

The POP! pass includes entry, a popcorn, and a soft drink for each film in the series.

Thursday, August 1 at 6:30 p.m.
Meet filmmaker Ben Wickey and learn about his award-winning stop-animation short that has been on the festival circuit for the past year.

*The House of the Seven Gables (1940)
Thursday, September 5 at 6:30 p.m.
This version of the gothic romance stars George Sanders, Margaret Lindsay, and Vincent Price. A showing of Vincent Price’s guided tour of The Gables will kick off the evening.

*The Scarlet Letter (1926)
Friday, October 4 at 6:30 p.m.
The silent version of the film will have a unique piano accompaniment by Peter Krasinski. After the film, Nancy Schultz, a professor of English at Salem State University, will have a conversation with the audience.”
