Enjoy a marathon reading of “The House of the Seven Gables” at none other than…the House of the Seven Gables! Enduring Hawthorne is an event that takes place each year to enjoy the book in its entirety. Details are per Salem.org.
“Salem Maritime National Historic Site and The House of the Seven Gables will be hosting “Enduring Hawthorne: A Marathon Reading of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The House of the Seven Gables.”
Born in Salem, Nathaniel Hawthorne is credited with the development of the distinctly American Novel. Originally published in 1851, The House of the Seven Gables is one of Hawthorne’s most famous books, which attracts people to Salem nearly 170 years later.
Working in a continuing rotation from beginning to end, a series of Park Rangers, partners, and many, many, heroic volunteers with take turns reading for five minutes at a time. Salem Maritime is currently looking for volunteers to assist in this epic feat. If interested, please contact Gavin Gardner by email at gavin_gardner@nps.gov.
