What kind of Halloween costumes are lurking in your closet? Probably more than you’d think! I’m not talking about store-bought Halloween costumes or even handmade costumes you spent too many hours creating to discard. What kind of costumes could you make from the clothes you wear every single day?<\/p>\n

It’s a question I ask myself often, actually. Partly because I believe every day should be Halloween, but mostly because coming up with a killer Halloween costume shouldn’t be difficult. It should be as simple as walking into your closet!<\/p>\n

And that’s exactly what I did to come up with my American Horror Story: Coven-inspired costume I wore to a local museum event recently. (One that would be perfect for wearing around Witch City this Halloween season too!)<\/p>\n

I may be in the minority, but I loved AHS: Coven. Since New Orleans is just a day trip away for me here in Houston, I spent the full season daydreaming of attending\u00a0Miss Robichaux’s\u00a0Academy\u00a0for Exceptional Young Ladies, wearing gorgeous black dresses and strengthening my Seven Wonders power.<\/p>\n

But really…I just wanted to wear all those dresses and hats.<\/p>\n

As a Halloween blogger, I’ve acquired quite the collection of black dresses over the years, so I knew putting together a Coven-inspired costume wouldn’t be hard. I’d just need the right combination of items. I went digging through my closet to see what I could find.<\/p>\n

Here’s what I came up with:<\/p>\n

I modeled my\u00a0costume after the one Zoe wears as the girls of Robichaux Academy parade through the streets of New Orleans:<\/p>\n

It’s not an exact match, I know, but I made sure the look hit the high points: black hat with a stiff brim, flowing black dress that goes past the knee and black boots.<\/p>\n

One of my favorite things about costumes from your closet is they don’t have to be identical. (Trust me, I’ve stressed out about costumes being picture perfect<\/strong> over the years…and it isn’t worth it.) As long as you are picking up on the key details of the character you’re trying to recreate, you’d going to be successful.<\/p>\n

I ended up wearing my costume to an event at a local museum, and my friend Shelia was kind enough to snap a few photos of the costume in action!<\/p>\n

Dressing as the girls from AHS: Coven would be a simple group Halloween costume to pull together last-minute too! Any combination of black hats and dresses will do…but you’ll each have to bring your own bitchcraft attitude. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n
