Check fares early – and often!

Be Flexible in your travel dates
Allowing a bit of flexibility in your departure and return dates can equal big savings. Generally flying in or out of your destination midweek is cheaper than on or close to the weekend, so be sure to compare rates based on that.
Ignore the myths
According to most travel exports, airfare rates do not go down in price the closer to the departure date. You should aim to book your flight 3 to 4 months before the travel dates. There is also no such thing as the “cheapest date” to actually book your tickets. You just need to watch for price spikes and dips by checking rates often.
Do the math ahead of time
Booking cheap flights on discount airlines can be a good way to save money, however make sure you’re doing all of the math out ahead of time, including all hidden costs. The rates for discount airlines often includes just the bare minimum.
Loyalty to an airline
If there is a certain airline you favor over the others, make a point to always book with them. Join their membership programs, sign up for rewards and credit, etc. This will often lead to reduced airfare in the future, free upgrades, free checked bags and more.
