Hey everyone, happy Monday and welcome back to the blog. Today I wanted to do something a little different and revisit an old topic I wrote about in 2018. In 2018 I wrote a blog called “Five things that Salem, MA has taught me” and it was received super well by you guys. You all seemed to really enjoy getting a peek behind the scenes and learning more about me and my story. That was 6 years ago (!!!) and today I want to chat about that topic again and add in new updates. This update is coming more from a business and entrepreneurship angle. So here we go!

It’s truly about the community

Salem and the businesses in the downtown area are a super close community. I have lived in four different states at this point and have never seen any other community like this. They all show up for each other, support one another, cross promote, collaborate and work together to elevate the whole community. It’s truly amazing. I have learned so much about community and collaboration since beginning ThingstodoinSalem.com and all of my associated platforms. Living and working here really is like nothing else and I am super grateful to be a part of it.

Sometimes you need to go with the flow

If COVID taught us anything in the business community, it’s that sometimes you need to pivot and go with the flow. Working in a tourism focused industry means everything I was previously doing had to be rearranged when travel came to a screeching halt in 2020. The pandemic was a horrible time and was so scary but I am grateful that it taught me to pivot. I began exploring other verticals for my business, launched SalemMAWedding.com, brought back my photography services and began exploring new options. Since then I have also launched WitchCityCoven.com. Being a business owner means you need flexibility and you need to be able to pivot from time to time.

You create your reality

Looking back at myself 10 years ago, I had no idea this would be my life path and my career. However, I can see that I had been shaping my own reality all along. Starting with learning HTML and code at a very young age, learning how to build websites, learning graphic design, getting into photography at a professional level, mastering content creation, media, marketing, social media influencing and more. All of these skills that I learned separately came together to allow me to build and grow ThingstodoinSalem.com and all associated platforms. All of the puzzle pieces snapped together perfectly. I was unknowingly creating this reality for myself by mastering these skillsets and I am grateful for this life I have created every single day. Every. Single. Day.

You always need to be growing

“Everything you want is on the other size of your comfort zone.” I have heard this expression many times and had always sort of brushed it off. However, it’s so insanely true. You always need to be growing, evolving, expanding and pushing the edges of where you currently are. That is where the true growth comes in, where the true evolution of creating the path you want comes in.

Consistency is key

When it comes to business, consistency is key. This applies extra to content creation, media, social media influencing and the like. You need to show up for your business, consistently. I spent the first few years of running ThingstodoinSalem.com blogging and posting on social media every single day. I never missed a day, holidays included. I think that that, combined with being super specific and niche with my content, is one of the reasons why I grew my audiences so quickly.

Are you interested in working with me? I do tons of 1:1 consultations, social media audits, brain storming sessions and more. If you’re a Salem based business or north shore based business interested in marketing opportunities, feel free to reach out as well. I can be contacted via email to discuss: info@thingstodoinsalem.com.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my life living and working in Salem. Feel free to ask any questions you may have! <3
