things to do in salem ma on a rainy day

Hey all! Happy Monday and welcome back to the blog. Today I wanted to revisit a topic I last covered allllll the way back in 2017. Today I am going to do a 2025 update on my list of 10 things to do in Salem, MA on a rainy day. Keep in mind this list is not all inclusive – there are tons of options outside of this list. This is just meant to be a starting point to give you some ideas. So without further delay, here we go!

1. The Peabody Essex Museum – Salem is home to the PEM, which is the country’s oldest continuously operating and collecting museum. It is an absolute gem and if you have rain in the forecast all day, this is a great way to let it pass.

2. The Salem Trolley – The Salem Trolley operates seasonally and is a wonderful way to sight-see. It’s also a wonderful option if the weather isn’t great. Rest your feet, get the lay of the land and wait out the weather on the Trolley.

3. Wicked Good Books – Feeling bookish? Browse the titles in Wicked Good Books for some new reading material. Wicked Good Books shares space with Silly Bunny (same owners!) so they have plenty of options for the kiddos too.

4. Get a reading at Pentagram – Pentagram is home to some the best readers in Salem, in my opinion. If you’re feeling witchy, stop by and get a peek at the future.

5. Dine at the Tavern inside the Hawthorne Hotel – The Tavern is located inside the Hawthorne Hotel and offers old world tavern vibes with a lovely view of the Common and the Witch Museum. Dine on some delicious food and watch the rain come down.

6. Get a tattoo at Acorn Tattoo – Feeling adventurous? Get some new ink! I have had several tattoos done by Patrick at Acorn Tattoo and definitely recommend him. His shop has lovely cottage-core vibes and would be a great spot to wait out the weather.

7. High tea at Jolie Tea Co. – Pinkies up! Book a high tea experience at Jolie Tea Co. and have some snacks and sips surrounded by Parisian vibes and decor.

8. Make a broom – Stop into The Witchery or Witch City Broom Co. and make your own broom. This makes for a super fun indoor activity and souvenir.

9. Visit the Salem Art Gallery – The Salem Art Gallery is found within The Satanic Temple Salem. This building is an entire mood and vibe, and if that’s your cup of tea, it’s a must do.

10. Hammond Castle – Okay, okay. I know. Not in Salem. But Hammond Castle in Gloucester is an absolute gem and offers absolutely stunning ocean views. Definitely worth a visit, in my opinion.

There ya have it! I hope this list helps give you some ideas for rainy day fun in Salem, MA. Enjoy!!
