things to do in salem, how to plan the perfect off season visit to salem ma

Hey all! Happy Monday and welcome back to the blog. Today I want to cover my tips and tricks on how to plan the perfect off-season visit to Salem, MA. First thing’s first – Salem doesn’t really have much an “off season”. Sure, some businesses are seasonal and some take a small break after October, however there is still stuff to do, things to see, delicious restaurants and fun attractions to enjoy. So without further delay…here we go!

First – choose the right off season time frame. This is entirely dependent on the vibe you’re going for. The winter offers quiet snow covered magick. The spring is when seasonal attractions come back to life. Summer is a great time for rooftop drinks and sailing with the Schooner Fame. Take into consideration your personal preferences when picking the month.

If you’re into photography, blogging, or content creation, the off-season is gold. No people in your shots, eerie fog, historic streets—it’s like getting Salem all to yourself.

Second, make sure you have a copy of Salem’s Other Seasons. This is my “off season” guide to Salem that covers the winter, spring and summer. It’s packed with travel tips and tricks, events and festivals for each month and so much more.

After downloading your guide, I would make sure you take note of what is open (and what isn’t). If you have your heart set on something, make sure you confirm hours of operation directly with the business or attraction.

Next, book your hotel. The rates are not nearly as crazy as in the fall so it’s much easier to stay right here in the city. Some local hotels here even offer discounts and specials during slower times like the winter. My go to recommendation is the Hawthorne Hotel but there are plenty of other options in and around Salem for you to pick from.

After booking your hotel, I’d suggest securing tickets for other things. This includes walking tours, psychic or tarot readings, events, festivals and more. Even though it’s off season, it’s still a good idea to plan ahead and book where you can.

And a final note – please support the local businesses here in Salem! Off season can be tough for some folks. Please shop local, eat local, tip well and show love to our community. We love having you here visiting us!

There ya go. I hope this helps! Be sure to grab your copy of Salem’s Other Seasons and happy planning!
