things to do in salem, the schooner fame, the schooner fame review

It has been quite a long minute since I have written a blog post for my review series, you guys! I am hoping to be able to get a few more of these in for you all hopefully before the fall, so stay tuned. Anyways, today on the blog I wanted to chat all about the Schooner Fame.

Salem has many options when it comes to sailing, however the Fame stands out and is my go-to recommendation. I have had the pleasure of working with Melissa and Michael who own and operate the Fame and have also gone sailing with them twice now. In addition to this I have plans to go out on the water with them again sometime before the end of the year, Coronavirus permitting of course.

To begin with, Melissa and Michael are two of the nicest and most genuine people. They have always been super kind to me and I can see their hospitality extends to everyone they sail with. The last time I was on the water with them there was a couple who had tickets for a sail. The man had informed Melissa and Michael that he was going to propose to his girlfriend on board and they went out of their way to help with this. They set up a plan for the man who was proposing to ask Michael to take a picture of the two of them and he would pop the question at that point so it could be documented in photos. Michael delivered on that and snapped a ton of pics while it happened, capturing the surprise on the woman’s face and their entire experience. Can you imagine? A sunset sail on the Fame, in the fall in Salem, on the night of a full moon. What perfect timing for a proposal.

Each time I have gone on board Michael has explained all about what is going on. He goes into a little nautical history, some north shore history and passes around the “baby book” of the Schooner Fame which shows images of the ship being built. He has even shot off a small cannon as part of the sail which is really neat to see.

I wander down to the ticket booth on the wharf to say hello to Melissa a few times a year and her smile and welcoming vibe extends to everyone she meets. She is a very kind and genuine person, providing a wonderful experience to everyone starting right at purchasing tickets from her.

I would definitely recommend the Schooner Fame, 100%. They are my go to suggestion when I am asked about sailing in Salem and I am sure they will continue to be for a long time to come.

Just to be clear, this blog post is not sponsored in any way. This is just part of my review series and is my honest opinion on the Fame. I hope this information was helpful! Have you been out on the water in Salem? Feel free to comment below. Enjoy!! <3
